The first DTC tailgate of the year is always special, and Sundays was no exception.
The wife and I arrived at FedEx Field at 5:50am. We pulled onto Redskins Road off of Rt. 202 and saw no fans waiting to get in. We drove around to Arena Dr. and we were the first fans there. The same P. G. county police officer was there from last year and remembered us because I was the first one there last year. I asked him if he could call his associates at the Morgan Blvd entrance to see if any fans had arrived there.
“No one was there,” he told me so yes, skinsfan44 was the VERY FIRST Redskins fan at FedEx Field for the 2005 season.
Yeah, I know, that and 50 cents will buy me a cup of coffee, but knowing I was the very first fan there was satisfying to me. Shortly after we arrived, RiggoRanger and John showed up and we started setting up the tailgate breakfast right there on Arena Dr. About half way though cooking breakfast the rest of the DTC arrived.
Kurt (RiggoRanger) and my wife had the breakfast done and we all started eating when other fans finally started to show up.
Great breakfast y’all made, Steph and Kurt.
Well, shortly after we got to F-51, we had the tailgate set up, 3 SUV’s full of Bear fans decided they wanted to tailgate right across from us on the other side of the F-51 light pole. We all started some good-natured ribbing of each other that was all in good fun. We didn’t mind too much they were there. The DTC was thinking that it would be a fun day jawing with these Bear fans.
It would have stayed that way if the Bear fans, while setting up their tailgate didn’t claim that this parking lot, F-51, was a Bears parking lot and we were not ALLOWED to cross this line that they drew “in the sand.”
Well, when that happened, the DTC went on a all out verbal assault on these Bear fans to the point that FedEx security came and told the Bear fans that they had to move for their own safety. They were escorted far away to the other side of the green lot. ;D
How dare they come to OUR HOUSE and talk crap like that. I would never do that at an opposing teams stadium. This was OUR HOUSE, and we told the Bear fans that too.
How disrespectful.
Later on, WTOP Radio came by and interviewed a few members of the DTC. They told us that the reason they came by was that they first stood up at the stadium and looked across the parking lots, and saw our tailgate setup with all the flags, banners, and canopies that they had to come over and see what was up. They (WTOP) came back a couple of times more because they said we were the most fun group of tailgaters they had seen all morning.
We also had a new member inducted into the DTC Sunday, and that was halter91 (Dave). He did the customary beer cone bonging 3 beers from the new DTC golden traffic cone. Everyone who drinks from the cone will be able to sign it with their name and will be used at all DTC tailgates from now on.
Congrats, halter91. You are now a DTC brother.
Also checked out the extremeskins tailgate that pez and Huly put on.
Very nice.
More laid back then the DTC's, but that is what their tailgate is all about. It was good seeing the 4C and Lady Sapperton. I heard Raub's homebrew beer was a big hit. Maybe next tailgate I will get a chance to try some.
After the game, we all came back out and re-setup the tailgate and hung out and talked about the game awhile until the traffic was gone like we always do. During that time, some of the Florida girls decided to jump up onto the Mayor’s Escalade and started to dance to the music we were playing. It was going pretty good, until it started to get a little raunchy. Everyone was having a lot of fun watching the girls to where they started drawing a big crowd of other Redskin fans.
After everything settled down, we all started packing up and rolled out of there just before 7:00pm.
Thanks to EVERYONE who stopped by and/or tailgated with us. The list is too long to remember everyone in my state of intoxication Sunday.
