This is from Dan Steinbergs Sports Bog
Carlos Rogers Speaks Unfortunately I've been asked to be a serious sold-media person today. In the meantime, a few quotes from Carlos Rogers upon departing Redskins Park on crutches (not color-coordinated, like Oleksiy Pecherov's), wearing a nice velour (I think) warm-up suit and a backward Braves hat (another traitor!). Oh, wait, serious reporter.
On the injury: "It's something that's frustrating because you can't finish your season, being the season I was having. Really there's nothing you can do about it but just stay in good spirits, go and have my surgery and just work hard and try to get back."
On whether he was emerging this year: "Yeah, I agree with that. That was one of my goals. My number one goal was to make sure I come back to camp in the right shape and go have a good camp and just finish every game of the season, go through the whole season, and a fluke injury like this is something you can't deal with. That's where I was heading, to try to have a good season, but it's something that happens, it's football. And the best thing I can do about it is just work hard and try to get back, not let it set me back."
Did you know right away: "I knew something was wrong, I knew it was kind of bad, the way my leg had bent I knew it was kind of bad. Crazy thing about it was my two best friends had knee injuries too, Cadillac and Ronnie [Brown]. It's like, 'What's going on? What we done did wrong?' Other than that, I've got two strong guys, we're all working in the offseason to come back to training camp, we'll all be working on our injuries, just try to get back together."
Next year: "Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. No doubt. This injury will take me five, six months. I'll try to push myself to be back even faster than that. I'll be back."
On Leigh Torrence: "Leigh'll fit in good. It's all up to him. He's a young guy. I'm young too, but he's younger than me. It's all about his will. Leigh a fast guy, a quick guy, a guy that always compete. That's all you can ask for. Just now's the time: your number's called and you've just got to step up and play, and just study a lot more than what you usually do. You usually study special teams a lot, study the nickel plays when you're gonna get in. Now it's time. You're one injury away too, Smoot or somebody go down, you up next. It's time for him to step up."
Hard to watch Sundays" "It's tough when you miss a game. For me it's this whole season. I'm kind of a guy that stays in good spirits. I'll just be happy to watch those guys. Seeing them out there competiitng, just go out there and get the win. Ain't nothing I can do about it. They've got the opportunity to still play this year, just take advantage of it."
"It's hard but like I say, with my spirit I really can't do nothing about it, just cheer them guys on and try and get 'em a tip on what I see. I'm still gonna get the gameplan so I can just know what's going on out there on Sundays instead of just being clueless to different offenses, because when you come back you never know. I'll still have to play some of them guys."
