I like that 1.7 in cap space. I'm sure Vinny C can figure out what to do with all that in between meatball subs.

McQuarters, Redskins Keep Talks Open

Free agent cornerback R.W. McQuarters left Redskins Park without a contract yesterday and safety Cory Hall, who signed a one-year deal earlier this week, was released at his own request.
Coach Joe Gibbs said the Redskins will continue negotiations with McQuarters; Hall is expected to retire and pursue coaching options after deciding he no longer wanted to play.
Hall was released by Atlanta earlier this offseason and signed with Washington on Tuesday after a visit. McQuarters spent parts of the last two days here but was not accompanied by his agent, Tom Condon, who has been in San Francisco negotiating a deal for quarterback Alex Smith, the top pick in the draft.
Gibbs said the Redskins have had phone conversations with Condon and plan to maintain that dialogue. McQuarters, who was recently released by Chicago, is trying to gauge his market value and plans to visit other teams, Gibbs said.
"We think he would fit in at a number of places," Gibbs said. "I think one of the things about him is he's very versatile. He's played corner, he's started at corner, he's played safety. Our coaching staff knows a lot about him We had a great discussion and a good visit."
McQuarters is of particular interest to Washington for his return prowess and the team's salary cap space could easily double next week. Linebacker Mike Barrow, who has yet to play for the team since being signed in April 2004, continues to rehab from a major knee problem in Arizona, Gibbs said. It is widely expected around the league that the veteran will be released next week, which would create an additional $1.7 million of cap space. Gibbs would not comment on any specific players in regard to the June cuts.
Gibbs said linebacker LaVar Arrington (knee surgery) remains on target to return during training camp; linebacker Marcus Washington (back surgery) has been cleared to participate in individual drills, Gibbs said, and is well ahead of schedule. Defensive lineman Brandon Noble (knee infection) and return specialist Chad Morton (knee surgery) have not been cleared to practice, either.
Redskins Notes: Gibbs said he still has had no contact with safety Sean Taylor and reiterated his disappointment in Taylor's decision to remain in Florida this offseason. He still expects Taylor to attend next month's involuntary minicamp. . . .
The Redskins will hold two practices next week rather than the normal three because of the holiday weekend. They have three practices scheduled each of the following two weeks leading up to the June 17-19 minicamp.
